Walking down the street, me and team member Josh, saw a really eye catching shirt. We thought it was so cool that we both kind of wanted one.
Fast forward to 2 months later. We had just finished our lunch meeting and there was it again. Someone else had that shirt, too.
We searched for the brand online and found it.
There were simply giving out those cool shirts away for free! FREE!
That’s when it hit me.
The Startup Guy & Entrepreneur Inside Me
You know, when you are an entrepreneur, you get to think about things. Most especially, WHY things are done.
Why do they give out those shirts?? Does it bring in business? Keep them coming?
Come to think of it, the guys over there at Konbini Rentals sent me a shirt 2 months ago. Years ago, I got my GUSTO! shirt from the now defunct Gusto Travel website.
So, I started looking around some more.
This service at UnitedSolar was giving away shirts to everyone that joined their promo recently. The design was amazing.
The popular podcast show I listen to, 1 Day BB, also gives away shirts for people that leave them the best reviews!
The guys from Dynamodo were giving it away for every purchase (without warning) and those customers thank them for it. I see those shirts in the gym sometimes!
This one from Single Grain was also a GREAT story. He made 500k and opened new doors for him and his company! AMAZING!
This is also a great story that I found through Google.
So, Logically, I Had To Do Something
To quench my thirst to test it out, that is.
I had to think of what I needed to do though.
Should I stick with shirts? I could always go other routes as there are a ton of corporate gift shops out there that can give me ideas, we can even do branded pens but that turned out more expensive, though it is doable sometime in the future.
At the end of the day, we stuck with shirts. T_T
So I started reading around, on how to design shirts, what kind of printing type we want to go with, what turnover time is good, what about colors and limitations and so on. There’s no need to be super, ultra fashionable. You just need to be you.
I got to work with Matt on our design and in 2 hours, we had our initial design! WOO!
We got an initial order of 30 t-shirts created. I ordered an extra 20 because much like Sujan’s reason in his story at the top, I want to wear it daily.
A New Beginning
We have the shirts now and we love it.
We’re running a promo on our Instagram community as we speak.
As for the 20 shirts for me? Well, I gave it away to my friends and family. I kept just 1 and plan to frame it as Version 1.0.
Now Matt and I are back to the drawing board. We plan to produce some new designs. We’re taking longer now as we want it to be better! Version 1.5? Nope, we’re jumping to Version 2.0!
Look out world, NxV shirts are coming!
PS. I did see sites that can sell shirts for you using your design. Heck even indie singers and pro-wrestlers use them. It’s a GREAT concept. Just worth noting.
I also have to apologize that this turned into a personal story but it’s just an amazingly simple thing you can do to promote your brand and business. It’s tried and tested and well worth the money.
